How to nominate
Learn how to prepare your candidate profile and nominate to become a candidate in the 2027 Council Elections – it's a simple and straightforward process.
Once your nomination has been accepted, you can start running your campaign.
Becoming a council member gives you the opportunity to contribute towards shaping your local community.
Prepare your nomination
Our nominations kit helps you prepare your nomination, which must include a candidate profile.
The kit provides information about becoming a candidate for council and includes the:
- council elections booklet
- candidate handbook
- requirements for your candidate profile and photo.
Creating your candidate profile
Your nomination must include a candidate profile of no more than 1000 characters. We also recommended including a photo.
The Electoral Commission of SA will publish your candidate profile (and photo if you've supplied one) on their website. It will also be sent to all voters with their ballot pack.
Read the candidate profile requirements (coming soon) to find out what to include in your candidate profile. This document is also in the nominations kit above.
Submit your nomination
You can submit your nomination during the nomination period from Tuesday 26 January 2027 to 12:00 pm Tuesday 9 February 2027.
