For first time voters

Your council makes decisions that affect your daily life – the streets you walk on, the parks you enjoy, and the bins that go out each week.

Enrolling to vote is important as you get a say on who represents you on local council.

On this page:

Did you know? The Local Government (Elections) Act 1999 requires all councils (with the exception of the City of Adelaide) to purge the council voters roll on 1 January of every election year. This occurred on 1 January 2022.All landlords, business lessees and resident non-Australian citizens are removed from the council voters roll. This means that they will need to reapply to be enrolled in order to receive a voting pack for the November 2022 council elections.

How to enrol for first time voters

Depending on your circumstances, there are three different forms to choose from when enrolling to vote.

  1. Form 1 - For residents in a council area who not on the state electoral roll, a sole owner of a property in a council area but do not live in the area, or renters of a property in a council area.
  2. Form 2 - For sole business owners or sole occupiers who occupy any type of rateable property in a council area.
  3. Form 3 - For residents whose property is jointly owned or occupied by businesses, individual persons or a combination of both.
