Unable to vote

There may be instances where you're unable to receive your ballot pack or mail your ballot pack to cast your vote. However, you may still be able to vote in your council election.

Requesting a new ballot pack

If you're enrolled to vote but did not receive your ballot pack in the mail, you can request a replacement ballot pack. Call the Electoral Commission of SA on 1300 655 232.

You can also request a replacement ballot pack if the original ballot pack you received was damaged, destroyed or issued for the incorrect ward.

Made an error

If you've made a mistake in marking your ballot paper or declaration envelope, you can correct your mistake on the same ballot paper. As long as your intention is clear, your vote will still count.

To make sure your correction is legible, simply cross out the mistake and write the correction alongside.

Unable to get to a post box

Ballot packs will be mailed out.

Voting closes at 5:00 pm Wednesday 7 April 2027.

If you're unable to get to a post box, please contact the Electoral Commission of SA on 1300 655 232 to discuss alternative arrangements.

Travelling and out of the country

If you've received your ballot pack before leaving the country, you should complete your ballot papers as soon as possible. Then post your envelope to the Electoral Commission of SA before your departure.

If you'll be out of the country before ballot packs are sent (from Thursday 15 October 2026), contact ECSA on 1300 655 232 to discuss your options.
